The Bobby Moore Fund has benefitted
recently thanks to the wishes & actions of 11 year old Jonjo
Heuerman . Keen West Ham United fans, Jonjo, together with his mascot,
Dicksey (both pictured above) undertook a walk from Wembley
Stadium to West Ham's Upton Park Ground. Jonjo was originally hoping to raise
£10,000 for the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK, but by December 2012,
has now reached ten times that, and the amazing sum of £100,000 . Jonjo's
wishes followed previous fundraising efforts by his older sister
Megan.
Jonjo's grandmother, Lynda (pictured
above - centre (with his Dad)), passed away on 17th February 2009 from Bowel
cancer, just eight days before the anniversary of Bobby
Moore's tragic death from the same illness on 24th February 1993. In February
2011, over just 3 days, he set out to walk the 23 miles from Wembley Stadium to
Upton Park. He repeated this in February 2012, and in February 2013, he walked
the 66 miles from West ham to Wemley.... and back.Jonjo and Dicksey make a fantastic team and are a real
inspiration. This is what our family of football supporters is all
about.In 2011, Jonjo
was awarded The Flame of Hope Award - Young Volunteer of The
Year - by Cancer Research UK.
He has won the hearts of West Ham United supporters & football supporters everywhere. Mum Donna said:
"He has been taken to the hearts of so many and so many and has such a huge following now. He has even been known to sign a few shirts and autographs! The fans and the club have been so kind to him".
In 2012, Jonjo was awarded the "Spirit of London" award at the O2 Arena. Richly deserved.
Jonjo continues to try to raise money and even more so, publicity. There are photos from his fundfraising walk below. Please tell your friends and family about him and let supporters from other teams know about him. Since hearing about Jonjo and his efforts to raise awareness of The Bobby Moore Fund, and the terrible thing that is cancer, people have gone and got themselves checked.
